Research peptides in the Netherlands: the legal framework
The Netherlands does not regulate ‘peptide’ but ‘medicine’. That distinction — and who oversees it — decides what may happen with research material.

How the Netherlands classifies a product
The Dutch Medicines Act (Geneesmiddelenwet) turns on presentation and intended use: if a product is offered as, or intended as, a means to treat or prevent disease, it is a medicine. Placing one on the market requires a marketing authorisation.
Authorisation runs through the CBG-MEB (Medicines Evaluation Board); enforcement sits with the IGJ (Health and Youth Care Inspectorate). Research material supplied purely as such, without a therapeutic claim and not for human use, falls outside that authorisation requirement.
What that means when buying for research
The line sits in the claim, not in the order. As long as a compound is supplied and used as research material, no medicines authorisation is in play. Present it as a treatment or administer it to people and the framework shifts — and so does the responsibility.

Peptides are not banned as a class of substances. What matters is whether a product is presented as or intended to be a medicine; then the authorisation requirement of the Geneesmiddelenwet applies. Research material without a therapeutic claim and not for human use does not fall under it.
