Research peptides in Belgium: the legal framework
Belgium regulates medicines through a 1964 act and its own federal agency. On top of that sit separate rules on hormonal substances and on doping, partly at community level.

Medicines law and the FAGG
The Belgian medicines act of 25 March 1964 takes the same starting point: presentation and intended use decide whether a product is a medicine.
Supervision and authorisation sit with the FAGG (Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products, AFMPS in French). Research material without a therapeutic claim falls outside the authorisation requirement for medicines.
Additional rules: hormones and doping
Alongside medicines law, Belgium has separate regulation on substances with hormonal action and on doping in sport. Anti-doping is also a competence of the communities, so the rules in Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels need not be identical.
Structurally that means the medicines-law classification is not the only track. For a specific substance in a specific context, the FAGG or the competent community body is the right source — we make no statement on that.
